At the same time I was always drawing, building
furniture from balsa wood for the doll house my dad had built for me,
sewing, knitting and I was learning how to fix motorcycles (my dad was
always fixing or rebuilding his friends' bikes) and I did not mind getting
my hands dirty, even then. I started sculpting one of a kind figurative sculptures in 1991. I sculpted over 40 small (1.5" to 1' ) figures from stone clay. Then I discovered polymer clay and sculpted eight large figures. I quit because real life interfered with creativity. In 1996 with the encouragement of a good friend, I designed six Victorian carollers and started sculpting in stone clay to create the heads (2" to 1' or 1/6 human size) for Huron Av Carollers. Sculpting again after almost a five year hiatus, started the creative juices flowing and I was soon working in polymer clay creating children, adults and more mature folks in 1/3 human size. Portrait and lifelike figures is what I enjoy creating most, although I do sculpt Father Christmas on request. The creative outlet of sculpting was a natural progression from painting/drawing figures/portraits. I worked as a graphic artist/designer for over 20 years. I am one of the original founders
of the Canadian Doll Artist Association and one of the organizers of
the first ever Canadian "Doll" Conference in 2000. My interest in art has never wavered although I did drift off into various other fields and life endeavors. I have designed and sold my fashions, done interior decorating, worked with children with learning disabilities, etc. My two greatest accomplishments in life.....my two terrific sons! I am a self-taught sculptor and love to create and share my knowledge through teaching or answering whatever questions I can.
